Marumataen (丸又園) is a Uji-region tea wholesaler in Kizugawa, Kyoto. This Yamashiro district supplies much of the raw leaf sold as ‘Uji tea.’ Founded in 1853, with some of its marketing rounding this to ‘150 years,’ it opened a shop in 1970 and began online sales in 2003. Its catalogue covers stone-ground matcha, sencha and gyokuro. It sells directly through its webshop and Rakuten, with prices from ¥570–¥5,940 for 30–100g.

Brand story
Marumataen is a 産地問屋 (production-area wholesaler). It buys leaf from contracted farms and the Kyoto tea market rather than growing everything itself. It then stone-grinds and blends tea under its own names: Asagiri, Hatsugasumi and Zuiko. Top matcha Zuiko names three cultivars, Asahi, Uji Hikari and Samidori, rather than one. This blending-house approach supports consistency across harvests.
