The official Japanese company profile traces the business back to 1916, when founder Shirakata Denshiro began tea peddling at Kyoto wholesalers, then to the 1923 launch of Hakuden Shoten in Tokyo and the later move to Shizuoka, where the name became Shirakata Denshiro Shoten. The current company highlights four business pillars: wholesale, direct retail, mail-order, and export. Its factory page says the brand maintains a designated tea garden in Kuromata in the upper Warashina River valley and builds products around Shizuoka tea, especially Honyama tea.
