伊藤久右衛門
Historic Uji tea house founded in 1832 (Tenpo 3) in Uji Tawara, Kyoto. Itoh Kyuemon blends a deep Edo-period tea heritage with modern gift culture and matcha sweets, offering one of Japan’s most widely recognized matcha retail experiences. Their ceremonial matcha lineup spans five grades, from everyday usucha to hand-picked premium koicha.
Brand story
The founder, Itoh Tsunaemon, began tea cultivation in 1832 in Tahara Village, Uji Tawara. Generations of the Itoh family refined their craft in Uji’s famous growing zones before relocating to central Uji in 1952, where the company was formally incorporated under the name “Itoh Kyuemon,” combining the ancestral surname with the “kyu” character from the fifth-generation owner’s name. Online sales launched in 2000. Today the brand holds over 300 products, partners with tea farmers in Shirakawa and Uji Tawara, and upholds five pillars: originality, Uji tea culture, seasonality, food safety, and customer-first thinking.
