Yame Kirari

by Oishi Chaen株式会社 大石茶園

八女抹茶 きらり

A single-cultivar matcha made from Kirari 31, a modern Miyazaki-bred cultivar developed by crossing Sakimidori and Saemidori. Grown in Yame under traditional shade cultivation, it produces a striking jade-green powder with intense umami, deep sweetness, and virtually no bitterness. The vibrant colour and rich flavour hold beautifully with milk, making it as well-suited to lattes and matcha sweets as to ceremonial usucha.

Editorial verdict

One of the sweetest and most visually striking matcha powders in Ochamura's lineup — Kirari 31's intense umami and jade colour deliver serious impact at an accessible price.

About the brand

Oishi Chaen

株式会社 大石茶園

Oishi Chaen (株式会社 大石茶園, OISHI TEA FACTORY) is a long-established Yame tea manufacturer founded on April 1, 1940 by Oishi Mitsuyoshi in Murotaoka, Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Now led by third-generation owner Oishi Goji (大石剛司), the company has grown from a local producer into one of Yame's major wholesale tea manufacturers with capital of ¥50 million. In 1954 Kenji Oishi took over management, and the company was renamed in 1972. A landmark came in 1977 when Oishi Chaen won the Japan Agricultural Minister's Award for gyokuro quality. In 1991 they established a retail subsidiary, 株式会社お茶村 (Ochamura), to reach consumers directly. The company invested in CCD optical sorting systems in 2008 and achieved FSSC22000 food safety certification and JAS Organic certification in 2018. Oishi Chaen exports its Yame matcha and gyokuro to over 40 countries worldwide. Their matcha is described as a rich, well-balanced blend of umami from Yame tencha, crafted for a mellow and blissful cup.
