JA Kagoshima Chagyo (JAかごしま茶業株式会社) is Kagoshima’s agricultural cooperatives’ tea company. Founded in March 1975, it is wholly owned by the JA Kagoshima Prefectural Economic Federation. It was set up to stabilise farmers’ livelihoods and establish ‘Kagoshima tea’ (かごしま茶) nationally. Its Nan’ei, Kagoshima City plant buys, refines, blends and packs tea. A stone-mill matcha facility opened in 2018. It employed 38 people in February 2026 and handled about 5,339 tonnes of tea in fiscal 2025. In 2024, Kagoshima became Japan’s largest crude tea (aracha) producer for the first time. Retail brand Satsuma-ji (さつま路) sells through three JA茶房さつま路 shops in Kagoshima City and an online shop. The range is mainly sencha and Chiran tea, plus two Kagoshima matchas ‘Yuki’ and ‘Tsuki.’
