Horaido
蓬莱堂茶舗
Horaido (蓬莱堂茶舗) is a Kyoto Uji tea specialist founded in 1803 on central Kyoto’s Teramachi-dori. It sells traditional Uji matcha, gyokuro, sencha, bancha and utensils. Its older Kyoto style favours bitter-leaning usucha and formal koicha.

Horaido’s Teramachi profile says it has preserved Uji tea’s classic taste, aroma and color since 1803 across matcha, gyokuro, sencha and bancha. Locally, it is known as genmaicha’s originator under its name Horai-cha. Its Japanese price list dates Horai bancha to the Taisho period. Inspired by yutoki rice at tea gatherings, the shop calls it the starting point of genmaicha now enjoyed across Japan.
